WEEKEND DESSERT: PEACH PIE

Today, whip up a classic peach pie, like Laura Herbst's at right. Herbst advises eating the pie warm with a side of ginger ice cream. Yum!

NATURAL HISTORY MUSEUM: PART II

After last trip's mouse lemur discovery, next up is the hall of African mammals. Enjoy!

READ THIS: PARIS TO THE MOON

Whether you've read this book or not, you're probably already familiar with Adam Gopnik's writing. He is, after all, a staff writer at the New Yorker. In Paris to the Moon, a series of autobiographical essays, Gopnik details his five-year-long move from the U.S. to Paris. He takes you through his first real fashion moment, the Valentino haute couture show, inside his fight to save the Balzar, "the best restaurant in the world," and how his young son Luke adjusts to his new life:

"This is home," Luke said once, and our hearts skipped, because we knew it wasn't, quite, and we were glad he thought it was.

Though at the end of the read, you might emerge with a bit of okay-we-get-it-your-life-is-perfect sentiment, it's an undeniably thoughtful read that channels all the ups and downs of living in a foreign place.

DREAM HEELS

Hunter green velvet Jean Paul Gaultier booties rimmed in pearls. A very new kind of kick.

SCENES FROM LINCOLN CENTER'S GREENMARKET

It really is a perfect, crisp autumn day here in New York, pumpkins and all.

MAGAZINE PREVIEW: LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Welcome to GHOST magazine.

Ever since I was about the age you see pictured right (okay, maybe a bit older than that), I’ve wanted to start my own magazine. Why I’m so obsessed with magazines, I can’t quite explain. Perhaps it's related to contributing writer Shane Ryan’s theory on why baseball, when introduced young, creates lifelong fans. Or why food writer Anna Stockwell clings to her family’s Thanksgiving pumpkin pie year after year. When you grow up on something, you simply can’t shake it.

In recent years, a question began to haunt my imagination: Could I start a magazine? Something that’s relevant to what my friends and I actually think about and how we live? Something smart that skips between the lighthearted and the serious and back again like a perfect dinner party conversation?

Lucky for me, I happen to have some very talented friends. So I challenged them to write about, photograph, and interview anything or anyone that got them excited. This first issue is an absolute celebration of all the wonderful, untapped creativity otherwise invisible in our midst. So, enjoy! And I hope you can be a part of the next one!

Love,

Kendall
